Morgan McCarthy

biography

As a theatre professional, I have had the opportunity to work under many different titles such as painter, director, actor and makeup artist.

This experience has given me an opportunity to see the different perspectives involved in the cooperative effort of the theatre. It is an extraordinary creature and ultimately I found I needed to focus on one aspect of this beast. My experience with different roles has helped me to be able to communicate with and consider the priorities of all the other technicians involved. Scenic painting was the best way I could support the living breathing animal that is theatre!

I began as a freelance scenic painter in Houston in 2006. During that time I painted touring productions for The Mainstreet Youth Theatre and The Express Children's Theatre. I relocated to Sacramento in 2008 to pursue a career in scenic painting, filling the position of resident scenic charge artist at Sacramento Theatre Company  and remained until 2011, eventually becoming a resident designer as well as fulfilling scenic charge duties.

I am pleased to have worked for Sacramento Music Circus as a scenic artist during the 2009, 2010, and 2011 summer seasons, and as a graduate of the 25th class of Cobalt Studios, returned as charge artist in the summer of 2013.

I am now based in the Chicagoland area and am available for full or part time work!

I sincerely hope you enjoy my portfolio.
